The 62nd Oakwood Alumni Banquet meet at the Oakwood Auditorium April 11 with 91 former students and guests attending. Opening prayer was given by David Beck and the Flag Salute by Clifford "Snip" Baker. The meal was catered by Southard Cafe. We all enjoyed the delicious meal and visiting with former classmates and friends.
President Jolene (Klein) Martens introduced the entertainment "Three Fold Chord" from Weatherford, Ok. The group consisted of 3 sisters Kambrie, Kaycie, and Kallie Swaim. Each girl played an instrument and sang. We enjoyed the very talented young ladies. They are very dedicated christian young ladies which was evident in their music and songs. We were very fortunate to have them.
Robert "Bob" Coleman class of 1943 was introduced as guest speaker from Oklahoma City. He reflected on his time in Oakwood and serving our country during WW11. Thanks Mr. Coleman for sharing with us.
The caterers and all the people who helped with registration, decorations and setting up were recognized.Certificates were awarded to the former student traveling the longest distance. We had three this year. 1st place was Marshall & Charlotte Smith from Albany, Oregon; 2nd, Vernon Drake was from Queens, N.Y. and 3rd Mike & Fey Mikles from Clearwater, Florida. The class with the most former students in attendance was 1965 with six in attendance, followed by 1964 with 5. The family with the most members was the Beckloff family with four, Roberts family with three, and the Cozort family with three. Last but not least was the oldest Classmate. Ray Johnson won at 95 years young, Clifford Baker was second at 91 and third was Bob Coleman 89. Way to go guys.
President Martens then opened the business part of the meeting. She read the minutes and the treasurer reports. They were approved as read. There was no new business except election of new officers. We elected Judy (Bivens) Widney as President, Margaret( Hosapple) Hunter as Vice President and Betty (Martin) Lance and Jolene (Klein) Martens as Sec/Tres.
